Presenting the FAST
STAR Quilt Workshop.. The
FAST STAR or Purple Smoke are wonderful quilts for people of
all levels of competence to contemplate. THE FAST STAR was
born of the Plains Indians' proclivity for intimate gift giving,
and the custom has endured seemingly forever until in our time
it is more valuable than ever. By tracing the heritage of this
quilt, Linda Parker walks her students through the past all
the way to that point where the last stitch of the project bonds
the proverbial fabric to the woof of being. This workshop is
designed to help the quilter rethink sewing stars. More
than the result of simple pins, needles and fabric, one can
expect their quilts to be fervent and soulful too. And mind
you, more than sewing skill is required. The student is expected
to bring their heart to this workshop. This class may be a combination
of the Fast Star and any or all of the patterns available.
THE
FAST STAR QUILT is
a sewn product consisting of a central star that affords some
of quilting's most interesting techniques for turning corners.
During the six-hour workshop the student will complete
two to eight points, depending on their individual abilities.
Student do learn star quilts are easier then they expected and
will gain the confidence to continue further. Each student will
also need skills in the use of a sewing machine, rotary cutter,
ruler, and seam ripper ( not for ripping out seems ).
For
the workshop, the amount of fabric a student is required to
bring are quite modest: This is for the Fast Star and makes
an 81" by 96" quilt top, materials are for 60"
star center.
